What
are Enzymes?
Enzymes are energised protein molecules responsible
for all biological activities going on in our 60 trillion cells and are
essential for every chemical reaction that takes place in our bodies –
from digesting the food that we eat and unlocking the nutrients in it,
to activating our immune system and producing energy in the body.
Without sufficient enzymes, all nutrients
including vitamins, minerals and trace minerals cannot be utilised properly.
Individuals who are enzyme deficient are prone to a myriad of health problems
and accelerated ageing.

What the experts
say about Enzymes?
“If you are interested in longevity,
vitality, superior health, overcoming sickness, or if you have trouble
losing weight and feel that after taking vitamins and minerals for years
you haven't really benefited as much as you would like to, find a way
to begin supplementing with enzymes.”

“……..enzyme
…… "splendid molecular machine" that produces
ATP (energy)” by Professor
Paul D. Boyer, 1997 Nobel Prize winner

“………diets
deficient in enzymes cause a 30% reduction in lifespan”
by Dr Edward Howell,
respected pioneer in enzyme research

Where can we get
Enzymes?
From our body
According to Dr Howell, a respected enzyme expert, each individual is
born with an “enzyme bank” or “enzyme
potential”, and when it runs down, health suffers
and when it runs out, life ends!
But our enzyme potential will be depleted by intake of cooked food, sweat,
body waste, unhealthy lifestyle, illness, pregnancy, exercise, stress
etc. Each time we lose enzymes, it is akin to withdrawing
from our “enzyme bank”.
From raw food
Enzymes are found in raw food, but they are even more heat-sensitive than
vitamins, and are destroyed when heated above 50°C. All forms of cooking
(baking, boiling, steaming, frying, broiling, grilling, microwaving) destroy
nutrients to some degree, but they destroy 100% of the enzymes!
No matter how healthy your cooking, there are no enzymes in cooked
food!
While eating enzyme-rich raw foods is good,
it still doesn’t count as a deposit as the enzymes
contained in the raw foods will be “offset” with the ones
used to digest them.
Conversely, each time you take an enzyme
supplement, you are making a deposit to your “enzyme
bank”!
What benefits do
we get from Enzymes?
1. Strengthens The Body’s Immune
Defenses
Your immune system demands a constant supply of enzymes, especially amylase
& protease
- Amylase:
in macrophages (white blood cells that play an essential immunologic
role) to seek & destroy bad microbes & toxins
- Protease: clears undigested
protein, cellular debris & blood toxin
2. Beefs Up “Seek & Destroy
Cancer Cells” Activity
Everyone has cancer cells in their body. Fortunately our immune cells
such as NK cells (natural killer cells) & Macrophages
seek and destroy these cancerous cells before they can cause any serious
damage. However, some cancer cells hide under a protein covering to avoid
detection by immune cells!
- Enzymes dissolve this
protein covering to aid destruction by immune cells & were reported
to increase the action of macrophages by 700% & NK cells
by 1,300%.
- Several studies also concluded that enzymes
improve patients’ response rate, and reduce the severity of side
effects from chemotherapy and radiotherapy, reduce recurrence and metastasis
for greater survival rates when used as an adjunct to cancer treatment.
3. Promotes Healthy Cholesterol Level
& Blood Pressure
Accumulation of protein and cholesterol plaque is a common cause of hardening
and clogging of blood vessels. Lipase breaks down fat
& removes fat from storage. It also has been shown to help lower LDL
“bad” cholesterol & triglycerides levels.
Proteolytic enzymes, on the other hand, are great natural
blood thinning agents. These enzymes support good cardiovascular health.
4. Soothes Painful Joints & Body
Aches
Enzymes have been used to treat arthritis, carpal tunnel
syndrome & backaches. Enzymes dissolve fibrin, which prevents the
scar tissue build up that can cause restriction. Proteolytic enzymes
reduce the body’s production of “bad” prostaglandins
PGEs that cause inflammation & enhance the absorption of amino acids
to repair afflicted joints.
Enzymes can offer relief to sufferers of chronic physical conditions such
as carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, sciatica, strained tendon, or
old accident injuries such as whiplash, stiff neck, or disc problems.
5. Improves Nutrient Absorption &
Alleviates Digestive Discomforts
Taking enzymes with your meals or supplements help to ensure that you
are absorbing and reaping the maximum nutritional benefits. It can avoid
common digestive discomforts including indigestion, belching, flatulence
& constipation.
6. Alleviates Allergies (Food &
Skin)
Enzyme supplementation ensures proper food digestion
to prevent unnecessary immune responses that attempt to destroy
the undigested food protein in our body - a response that manifests
as an allergic reaction.
7. Alleviates Tiredness & Increases
Energy
Taking enzymes with meals helps to reduce body’s energy
needs for digestion & prevent after-meal energy slumps while
raising body’s energy levels throughout the day. Enzymes are important
for the production of glucose, an instant and indispensable
fuel for muscles and brains. They also regulate your metabolism.
8. Trims Fat Bulges & Reduces
Water Retention
A natural way to lose weight is to eat enzyme-rich foods.
- Lipase: breaks down
fat and is utilised as energy
- Proteolytic enzymes:
enhances the excretion of fat while acting as an appetite suppressant
- Anti-oedema enzymes:
reduces the appearance of cellulite and weight gain caused by water
retention
9. Retards Premature Ageing &
Reveals Clear, Great-Looking Skin
Enzymes are crucial for healthy & youthful skin.
- Lipolytic enzymes: promotes
proper breakdown of fat & assimilation of fatty acids & other
fat-soluble nutrients that nourish the skin
- SOD-like enzymes: helps
to quench free radicals that cause premature ageing
Enzymes also regulate inflow
of nutrients and elimination of waste, which are vital for preventing
lackluster skin & wrinkles.
How Are Enzymes Good
For The Following Groups?
1. Growing Kids
Children’s diets today lack the necessary enzymes that help with
digestion. Enzymes help improve food digestion for optimal nutrient absorption.
2. The Elderly
Ageing naturally reduces enzymes in the body. Sufficient enzymes are vital
for repairing, regeneration and healing of the body to promote longevity.
3. Pregnant Women or Breast Feeding
Mothers
Enzymes taken with meals, before and after childbirth ensure better absorption
of vital nutrients for both mother and developing baby.
4. Those Recovering From Illness
Enzyme reserves deplete significantly when we are sick. New enzymes are
constantly needed to replenish those used, to facilitate faster recovery.
